This resource contains 100 picture cards of basic Japanese nouns/classroom expressions with the words in kana script on the back. It is mainly aimed at primary school students of Japanese, but it would also be suitable for junior secondary students.

In line with our aim to support the teaching of Japanese at primary level in Australia, The Japan Foundation Sydney Language Centre invited a number of experienced primary Japanese teachers to advise us on the most pressing needs of primary level Japanese teachers. Based on the teachers' recommendations, this resource is the first to be produced by the Centre as part of the plan for materials development.

A few suggestions for using these cards are given on the next page, but The Japan Foundation Sydney Language Centre hopes that teachers will adapt these ideas to their own classrooms, and give us feedback. It is also hoped that they will give the Centre their ideas for additional useful words to add to this resource in the future.

The Japan Foundation Sydney Language Centre would like to thank the primary teachers' group for their assistance in choosing the 100 words for inclusion in this resource.
